ELDON, IOWA –
On Saturday, August 24th, Porch Fest will be returning to the American Gothic House in Eldon. From noon to 3:30pm, visitors can catch live performances by local musicians. This event is free of charge, and sponsored by the American Gothic House Center and the City of Eldon.
There will be barbeque available for purchase from the Eldon-based Gothic Town Grillers, starting a little before noon. Some shade and seating will be provided by the center, but attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and anything else they need to enjoy an afternoon outdoors.
This year’s acts include the return of Those Guys?, a bluegrass fusion band based out of Ottumwa; MMLD (More Music-Less Drama), which features Lily Arney, Shannon Garrels, and Tom Shadonix; and a special brief performance by Wild Bill Willie, A Willie Nelson tribute act by Albert “Wild Bill” Essary, an Eldon-native now based out of Arkansas.
This will be the third year in a row that the American Gothic House Center (AGHC) will be hosting this free event that was inspired by the international event Play Music on the Porch Day, which invites people around the world to participate by going outside and playing music. This year’s official Play Music on the Porch Day falls on August 31st. AGHC’s Porch Fest occurs a week early this year, in order to accommodate local teachers and students before the school year begins. This is also the first year since AGHC’s inaugural Porch Fest that the music will be performed on the Gothic House porch, since last year’s event coincided with restorations of the house, leaving musicians without a porch to perform on! However, visitors were still able to enjoy live music performed from the porch of the visitor center.
