Group tours to the American Gothic House & Center are a great addition to any tour itinerary. Whether you are interested in history, art, a great photo opportunity, or a stroll through our beautiful native prairie gardens, we have something for everyone in your group.
In order to ensure we have enough staff on hand to accommodate your tour, we generally ask tour groups of 12 or more to pay a fee of $2 per person. This fee makes it possible for us to give your group the best experience possible when visiting us.
Pre-arranged group tour services include:
Welcome and an introduction to American Gothic, Grant Wood, and the House.
Choice of two educational films (17 minute cartoon geared towards kids or a 30 minute documentary about Grant Wood and his art)
Photos in front of the house (costumes and props available)
Docent led tour of the Gothic House
(please note the the house is not easily accessible for people with mobility issues)

Visit length depends on how many people you have in your group and how many of the above activities you decide to participate in. Visits vary between 30 and 90 minutes, with an average visit lasting about 1 hour.
For group tours of 12 or more, please make arrangements in advance of your visit so Center staff can best accommodate your tour. Please note that we are happy to schedule tours outside of our normal hours of operation with advanced arrangement.
Rent the American Gothic House Center for your next party, meeting, or any occasion.
The patio in front of the American Gothic House is a unique, picturesque site to hold your small wedding ceremony or other special occasion. The scenic gardens create the perfect setting for outdoor events on the lawn, porch, or patio.
Patio only: $50 (available from 4pm to sunset)
Patio & Amenities: $100 (available from 4pm to sunset)
Rental deposit must be made at the time of reservation (50% of fees) with the balance to be paid at least 10 days prior to the scheduled event.
Alcohol and smoking are not permitted on the premises.
Food is not permitted in the Center.
